In a House hearing on Friday June 22nd 2007, representatives heard testimonies from physician witnesses regarding the state of America’s emergency medicine facilities. Witnesses testified that since 9/11, emergency departments have grown so rapidly to meet patient needs that they are now finding themselves under-staffed and under-funded in several key areas. If presented with a national disaster or terrorist strike, it may be difficult for some emergency facilities to handle the patient surge. (continued)
